The Runner’s Club has Members in Gillette Too. The Black Hills Runner’s Club is an open club, meaning that if you pay your dues, no matter where you live, you can belong. Roger Peabody from Gillette, WY is one such member. He joined three-years ago and takes in several Black Hills area events. Rogers first running event was a 10K, now he enjoys the Trail Series, has run the Run Crazy Horse ½ and the Mt Rushmore Marathon ½.
Originally, from Colorado Roger has worked as a computer programmer in the coal mines-forever. He started running because his cholesterol was high and stated that it took three-months of running to get it under control. He continues to run (to avoid taking medication) and now adds weight training to his regiment.
You should be able to spot Roger in a crowd, he sports Newton running shoes, with the brightest green and yellow I’ve seen for decades.
Roger’s running tips are to stay consistent, don’t overwork, run what you can and “be yourself”. He claims that portion control and a balanced diet are also key to a healthy lifestyle. Scheduled next for Roger is a marathon in North Carolina, which is just one more state to check off his list as he strives to compete in all 50 states.
The comradely of running, meeting new people and seeing all the different ability levels are what make it worthwhile for Roger. Who knows we may see those Newton shoes coming long before we know it’s you. Thanks for sharing Roger.
