Tell us a bit about yourself, where do you live, what do you do for fun, etc.
I was born and raised in southwestern Virginia. After college I moved to Florida to get out of the cold. Ended up living in Florida for over 20 years. My husband and I moved to Custer after purchasing a small lodging business in 2005. We owned and ran it until 2018. I am now retired in my little slice of heaven in Custer. I have been going to concerts and traveling more for the last few years. On the running front, I have been running for over 30 years. I exceeded all my expectations completing several marathons and a plethora of half marathons. I am now happy to complete shorter races as I have gotten older. I like to race where I travel. The thrill of the unknown in a new location. I hope to continue to run in new places, have more travel adventures, go to more concerts and hopefully travel abroad, maybe run a race in Portugal!
If you could have a gigantic billboard anywhere with anything on it — metaphorically speaking, getting a message out to millions or billions — what would it say and why?
“Be kind, we are all in this together.” The world is crazy right now. If we were more kind to each other, it might not be so crazy. Just a thought.
Any pre run or pre race habits?
For a race, I make sure I bring my watch and hat. Put on the sunscreen and sunglasses. Tell myself to stay calm and enjoy the scenery. For a run, no pre run habits.

What’s one of the best running related investments you’ve made?
Buying more than one pair of good fitting shoes.
Toughest race you’ve ever done? Why?
Estes Trail Ascent Run. My maiden name is Estes, so I had to do this one. It was quite a bit more difficult trail run and I was hiking alot more than running. But it was great challenge.

What advice would you give to a new runner? What advice should they ignore?
Enjoy yourself! Have fun! Listen to advice from others and apply what works for you. We are all different. Ignore what doesn’t work for you.
