Q: Tell me a little bit about yourself. (Where you’re from, what you’re doing now…etc)
A: Nick and Ramsee Hald moved to Rapid City in March of 2020. Ramsee grew up in Rapid City and Nick is originally from Scottsbluff NE. They met in Physical Therapy school, got married, and started their career as Physical Therapists in Nebraska. Nick grew up an avid runner and soccer player, while Ramsee did just about every sport she could. They have three children, Easton, Benson, and Noa, and are LOVING being back in the Black Hills and part of this running community.
You may recognize them from local races as runners, but also as Physical Therapists at Physio Performance. Nick specializes in the treatment of the endurance athlete for both rehab and performance. Ramsee is a pelvic health PT and specializes in all things female athletes.
Q: How long have you been running and how did you get started?
A: Nick has been running for all of this adult life. There was a “small break” when he was rehabbing his own ruptured achilles a year ago, but he has since been able to get back on the road and trails and plans to train for several races in the near future. Ramsee prefers shorter races, but has run for her entire life as well. Nick handles the long distance, Ramsee the speed 🙂
Q: Would you rather run with a group or alone?
A: Ramsee would definitely prefer a group, Nick could do either, depending on the day.
Q: Do you prefer roads or trails?
A: Honestly, Both!
Q: What is your favorite distance or race?
A: Nick has run several half marathons and loves that distance, but (according Ramsee) would crush a full marathon if he decides to do one! Ramsee prefers shorter distances lol.
Q: How do you stay motivated when you don’t want to run?
A: Lots of things keep us motivated, but seeing/feeling how hard Nick had to work to come back after injury was enough motivation for the both of us. Our clients, friends, and the whole running community are the best motivators around!
Q: If I didn’t run I’d ………..
A: Rehab runners 😉
Q: What do you find to be the most rewarding thing about running?
A: All of it! There is nothing like this community.
Q: What is your favorite running memory?
A: Our favorite shared memory is traveling to Seattle with a group of friends and fellow runners for a race. It was so much more than running. The whole trip was full of friends, laughter, and memories we will never forget.
Q: What’s the most valuable lesson you have learned from running?
A: That it doesn’t matter how far, how fast, or where you go. Just keep moving.
Q: What are your running goals for the future?
A: Ramsee would like to run a half marathon someday, and Nick something much longer lol. With the ages our children right now, its hard for us to both train for races at the same time, but someday…
Q: Who inspires you most?
A: Each other, honestly. As cheesy as that sounds, we are a team, so we stay accountable to and inspire each other.
Q: What advice do you have for new runners?
A: Being PTs we have LOTS of advice for new runners. But most importantly, just get started! And ask for help if you need it. There are so many great people in this community to guide and mentor you!
