May 2017-Mike Albin

Q. Tell me a little bit about yourself. (Where you’re from, what you’re doing now etc…)

I grew up in eastern Montana and moved to Rapid City right out of High School have lived in Rapid City for 21 years and work at Synchrony Financial. I have completed 40 marathons, 50+ half marathons and 1 Ultra – 50 miler.

Q. How long have you been running and how did you get started?

I have been running for the past 13 years. One cold day in March, I was laying on the couch and I decided to go out for a run (only made it ½ mile). And the rest is history….

Q. Would you rather run with a group or alone?

Both. I absolutely love running with my buddies. They push me to be a better runner. But having the time alone is good for my soul. It’s my quite time, just me and the pavement.

Q. Do you prefer roads or trails?

Road Runner. Trails scare me.

Q. What is your favorite distance or race?

Half Marathon.

Q. What are your goals for the future?

Run all 50 states sub-4 hours & to complete all 6 World Major Marathons (currently have 3 down).

Q. Do you have a pre-race ritual?

Get to the race early, eat a caramel roll and pre-workout drink.

Q. What do you love most about running? What do you like least?

I love helping fellow runners meet their goals. I have met so many wonderful & inspiring people across the world that it motives me to push harder. Only thing I would like better is having a sponsor to pay for my addiction LOL.

Q. Who inspires you most?

I am inspired by all my running friends. We are all different and have different strengths and weaknesses. That is what makes us stronger.

Q. Do you have any favorite races that you have run?

Local Race – Heart of the Hills – 10.6 miles & Deadwood Mickelson
Travel Races
Most Inspiring- Boston
Most Historic – Berlin
Happiest – Disney World
Overall Great Race – St. George, Utah

Q. What advice do you have for new runners?

Like Oprah said – “Running is a greatest metaphor for life, because you get out of it what you put into it.” Just have fun and meet new friends along the way! They will inspire you to push your body to limits you had no idea it could.
