This soft-spoken gal does it all. She has climbed rocks, crawled through caves, jumped out of a plane, is a tough mudder, is a rogaine competitor, does the Trail Series and tops it all off with a marathon or two. Joyce Sauer as seen here is willing to try about anything or should we say she has tried about everything!
She participated in the Battan Memorial Death March Marathon on March 17, 2013 with four-other Runner’s Club members. She is planning a trip to Hawaii in June for another full marathon. She claims to be more of a cross-fitter (OK, I’m not sure if that’s an actual word, but I’m using it anyway) and finds it a great overall conditioning program.
One of her favorite fitness items is socks. Not just any pair of socks, Joyce likes toe socks, because Number 1- they’re fun and Number 2- they prevent blisters between her toes.
Joyce’s training tips are to keep moving and be consistent. She has been a firefighter with the Rapid City Fire Department since 2004. Certainly, those firefighting skills will come in handy when she competes in the 12th World Rogaining Championship August 16 and 17, 2014, right here in the Black Hills.
In case you are wondering, in the photo she has Charon Geigle slung over her shoulder. (You make a lovely purse Charon.) Next time you see Joyce take some time and get to know this adventurous person.
