March 2013-Dennis Meier

If you haven’t had the opportunity to meet Dennis, you are missing out. A native of ND, Dennis and his lovely wife, Connie, moved to Rapid City in 1993. By that time, Dennis had spent 21 years as an administrator in healthcare. When they moved to Rapid, he started a home-health agency, which he sold. For the past thirteen-years, Dennis has owned and operated two payday loan stores.

What “hooked” Dennis on running? Well, it was winning his age division in the first 10K that he ever entered in 1983. In 1984, he entered his first marathon and has now pounded out 44 marathons, with two more to go in 2013. His ultimate goal was to complete 40 marathons in four-decades and in two-centuries.

Dennis ran his last marathon in 3:59, meeting his goal of a sub 4 (under 4 hours) marathon. Congrat’s! Dennis believes that determination and durability are two of the biggest reasons for his success. Blessed with good health he can count on one-hand the number of sick days he’s incurred over the last 40 years of working.

Dennis and Connie eat well too. They participate in Bountiful Baskets which provides loads of fruits and vegetables every week. Connie is also a member of the Runners Club and you’re missing out if you haven’t met her too. They are a good support system for one another. However, the best runner in the
family according to Dennis is his daughter.

His advice to those who are just starting out is to start slow, work with a trainer and find your running niche. People should enjoy running, because according to Dennis “It’s your time”.
